Valve repair surgery for Delroy: covering what insurance won't
A scheduled valve repair surgery in July is out of reach without help covering $1,350 of the cost.

Delroy was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in May. The surgeon at Kingston Orthopedic Institute recommended valve repair surgery, and He is scheduled for July. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,800, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,350 short.
my son has been in and out of Kingston Orthopedic Institute since May. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,800 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Delroy struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Delroy won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.

• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,200
• Post-operative medication: $105

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Delroy.
Sure. The biggest one is travel and lodging for the family, $45. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. I'll keep the page updated.
