My family left Syria 11 months ago after we were targeted for our work. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Newport. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little.
Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in September.
I was a pharmacist in Syria, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well.
We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months.
All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent).
Where the $3,450 goes:
• Beds, table and basic furniture: $1,200
• Winter clothing and school supplies: $570
• Language classes and bus passes: $300
• Rent deposit and first month: $1,380
With deep gratitude,
Meena

Keep going, Meena. I hope things turn around soon. I have a 11 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Thinking of Newport.
