Detroit
My family left Ukraine 11 months ago after the war reached our town. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Detroit. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 4 months of rent, and that support ends in November. I was an engineer in Ukraine, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. All purchases will be documented and photos shared (with the family's consent). Where the $3,700 goes: • Rent deposit and first month: $1,400 • Beds, table and basic furniture: $1,150 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $540 • Language classes and bus passes: $480 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $130 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

  • You're not alone, Sharon. Shared this with my family.

    • Your post was clear and honest. After 26 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

      • Is there anything that isn't money that would help Sharon?

        • Sharon GutierrezOwnerAnswer

Thank you. If you're in Detroit I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Fair thing to want to know.

      • Take care. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it

        • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Sharon.

          • Sharon GutierrezOwnerAnswer

Sure. The biggest one is rent deposit and first month, $1,400. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.

        • Wishing you peace. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I hope November is when things finally get easier

          • Hang in there. Looking forward to the next update. Wish I lived closer to San Jose so I could bring a meal

            • keep going, Sharon. This could happen to any of us. Wish I lived closer to Tallahassee so I could bring a meal. Take care.
