The Freedom vacant lot needs a rainwater harvesting system - Koen's neighborhood project
Volunteers in Utrecht are raising $1,950 for a rainwater harvesting system at the Freedom vacant lot.
🇳🇱 Netherlands1,463 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a rainwater harvesting system. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,100, and the remaining cost is $1,950.
It will serve about 428 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in August and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $1,950 goes:
• Materials: $1,150
• Permits and inspections: $310
• Safety equipment and signage: $230
• Tools hire and delivery: $260

Best of luck. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. After 11 years in construction I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
Hope it all works out. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. My neighbor in Kampala donated after I showed her your page.
best of luck, Koen. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.
sending good thoughts, Koen. It takes guts to ask. Well done. All the best.
Wishing you peace. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out.
