Thabo's final semester of a degree in social work in Ekurhuleni
Thabo has worked and saved for three years to study a degree in social work; a $1,000 gap now stands between him and graduation.

I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a degree in social work at Ekurhuleni Community College, and I'm one semester away from graduating. I have worked as a barista to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $1,000.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a top-ten-percent average, and my department head has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Ekurhuleni Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $1,000 goes:
• Textbooks and materials: $75
• Final term tuition: $440
• Outstanding tuition balance: $485
Thanks for reading all this.

Good luck, Thabo. Study hard! The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust.
So sorry you're going through this, Thabo. Your post was clear and honest
So sorry you're going through this. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Thinking of Ekurhuleni.
