After a large ovarian cyst, Amber was cleared for laparoscopic cyst removal, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Wollongong
In May I was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst. My surgeon at Wollongong University Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and I have been placed on the schedule for September. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $8,750, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $6,950 short. Doctors at Wollongong University Hospital told me a large ovarian cyst will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. I work as a market vendor, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $8,750 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a market vendor have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks. I'll not be able to drive during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $6,950 goes: • Hospital stay (5 nights): $2,550 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $3,800 • Physiotherapy sessions: $600 With deep gratitude, Amber

Updates from Amber

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($2,279 in total) I made the first payment toward surgeon and anesthesia fees. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. Small update. $1,131 so far, the first invoice got paid this week.
