Stop the eviction: 5 months of rent for Ganesh's family in Kathmandu

After a car accident, Ganesh is 5 months behind on rent and has a final eviction notice from the landlord.

When the call centre closed in November, I fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Monday a final eviction notice was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $550. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by February, we must leave. I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working two part-time jobs, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done. Where the $550 goes: • Rent arrears (5 months): $300 • Late fees and court costs: $50 • Utilities in arrears: $40 • First month of rent as a buffer: $160 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Ganesh

Updates from Ganesh

  1. Thank you all. We're at 79% now ($433). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward utilities in arrears.

  2. Quick update: $298 raised so far (54%). I met with the landlord and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  3. Update from Kathmandu: I met with the landlord and confirmed the amounts. We're at 48% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

Thanks for sharing this, Ganesh. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. All the best
