Stop the eviction: 5 months of rent for Colton's family in San Jose
A delayed insurance payout left Colton short on rent for 5 months; help us stay in our home.
🇺🇸 California, United States598 views
Following a long illness in the family, I fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Monday a final eviction notice was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $4,250.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by June, we must leave.
I have a toddler and a baby at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working two part-time jobs, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $4,250 goes:
• Late fees and court costs: $280
• First month of rent as a buffer: $950
• Rent arrears (5 months): $3,020

Hope things get better soon, Colton. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Love from Nagpur
Thinking of you, Colton. Your post was clear and honest. Sent it to 26 people at work. Thinking of San Jose.
