When my hours were cut in half in January, Artem fell 5 months behind on rent. Last Sunday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $300. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by May, the family must leave. There are 3 children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Artem has started working two part-time jobs, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $300 goes: • First month of rent as a buffer: $180 • Utilities in arrears: $70 • Late fees and court costs: $50 If you're reading this, thank you.

  • hang in there, Maxim. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day.
