Stop the eviction: 4 months of rent for Russell's family in Winnipeg

The closure of the factory left Russell short on rent for 4 months; help us stay in our home.

When the call centre closed in December, Russell fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Sunday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $5,200. The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by February, the family must leave. There are two young children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. Russell has started working evenings as a cleaner, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done. Where the $5,200 goes: • Rent arrears (4 months): $3,750 • Late fees and court costs: $390 • Utilities in arrears: $250 • First month of rent as a buffer: $810 If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people. - Julia
