Stop the eviction: 4 months of rent for Peyton's family in Bronx

A notice to vacate arrived last week. Peyton needs $4,550 to clear the arrears and stay housed in Bronx.

When the call centre closed in April, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Sunday a notice to vacate was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $4,550. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by July, we must leave. I have a teenager still in school at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working extra hours at a market stall, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done. Where the $4,550 goes: • Rent arrears (4 months): $3,450 • Late fees and court costs: $320 • Utilities in arrears: $270 • First month of rent as a buffer: $510 If you're reading this, thank you. - Peyton

Updates from Peyton

  1. Update from Bronx: the first invoice got paid this week. We're at 17% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($508 in total) the plan for utilities in arrears is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
