After a car accident that kept me from work for 10 weeks, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a termination letter was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $3,800. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by December, we must leave. I've 3 children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working two part-time jobs, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $3,800 goes: • Utilities in arrears: $220 • Rent arrears (4 months): $3,450 • Late fees and court costs: $130 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Mia

It's all in the list in the story. utilities in arrears is the big one at $220, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Good question.
