Stop the eviction: 3 months of rent for Gugu's family in Paarl
The closure of the factory left Gugu short on rent for 3 months; help us stay in our home.
🇿🇦 Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa795 views
After a car accident that kept me from work for 5 weeks, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Friday a termination letter was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $900.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by December, we must leave.
I have three school-aged children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working extra hours at a market stall, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $900 goes:
• Rent arrears (3 months): $550
• Late fees and court costs: $40
• Utilities in arrears: $85
• First month of rent as a buffer: $225

sending love, Gugu. Looking forward to the next update. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend.
Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Gugu.
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. rent arrears (3 months) comes first ($550) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Appreciate you taking the time.
Best of luck, Gugu. Shared this with my family. We're a small family in Giza but we're thinking of you
Take care. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. Love from Kota.

Shared this with my family. My neighbor in Benin City donated after I showed her your page. Thinking of Paarl.
Wishing you the best, Gugu. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Wish I lived closer to Faisalabad so I could bring a meal. All the best.
So sorry you're going through this. Hope this works out for you. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Love from Ahmedabad
