When my hours were cut in half in August, Folake fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $350.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, the family must leave.
There are three school-aged children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Folake has started working night deliveries, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $350 goes:
• Late fees and court costs: $25
• Utilities in arrears: $20
• Rent arrears (3 months): $305

Small update. $185 so far, we've booked the dates and paid the deposit.
