When the construction firm closed in December, Héctor fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Monday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $1,150.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by March, the family must leave.
There are three school-aged children at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Héctor has started working weekend shifts, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.

• Late fees and court costs: $95
• Utilities in arrears: $85
• First month of rent as a buffer: $260

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Héctor
Sure. The biggest one is rent arrears (2 months), $710. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. It helps to be asked.
