Wekesa was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in August. The oncology team at the Nairobi Oncology Institute has planned 6 rounds of treatment, starting in November. He will be away from work for about 6 weeks.
Wekesa is 29, worked as a taxi driver until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Nairobi Oncology Institute 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $900 goes:
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $120
• Transport to the Nairobi Oncology Institute: $130
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $650

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Wekesa!
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team comes first ($120) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.
