Standing with Sunita: prostate cancer treatment costs

Sunita is facing prostate cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Sunita was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May. The oncology team at the Chennai Oncology Institute has planned 10 rounds of treatment, starting in July. She will be away from work for about 3 weeks. Sunita is 38, worked as a primary school teacher until May, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Chennai Oncology Institute 3 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,200 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $770 • Transport to the Chennai Oncology Institute: $90 • Household costs while unable to work: $185 • Scans and lab work: $155 With deep gratitude, Sandeep
