In April I was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. My oncology team at Alcalá de Henares Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 7 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 55, I worked as a hairdresser until April, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Alcalá de Henares Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $8,900 goes: • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $580 • Household costs while unable to work: $1,250 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $6,500 • Transport to Alcalá de Henares Cancer Centre: $570 Glad we found this place.
