Durban
Nokuthula was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in May. The oncology team at Durban Cancer Centre has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in August. She will be away from work for about 12 weeks. Nokuthula is 34, worked as a primary school teacher until May, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Durban Cancer Centre 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders. I'll post every invoice and receipt as an update so donors can follow where each gift goes. Where the $3,100 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,750 • Scans and lab work: $510 • Transport to Durban Cancer Centre: $260 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $195 • Household costs while unable to work: $385 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Sipho

Updates from Sipho

  1. 42% there. I made the first payment toward chemotherapy and medication not covered. Thank you.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($1,113 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($800 in total) I made the first payment toward household costs while unable to work. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  • Stay strong, Sipho. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.

    • Stay strong, Sipho. It takes guts to ask. Well done

Good luck, Sipho. Shared this with my family. I hope July is when things finally get easier. God bless.

        • you're not alone, Sipho. Your post was clear and honest

          • Hope things get better soon. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Love from Quezon City.
