Otávio was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in February. The surgeon at Campinas Orthopedic Institute recommended septoplasty, and He is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,500, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $900 short. my father has been in and out of Campinas Orthopedic Institute since February. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without septoplasty. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,500 is more than we can find. While we wait, Otávio struggles with daily life and can't stand for more than ten minutes. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Otávio won't be able to stand for more than ten minutes, so the costs keep growing.
