Restoring the Union canal: a volunteer-led project in Liverpool
Help us clean and replant the Union canal before the June planting window closes.
🇬🇧 Liverpool, England, United Kingdom529 views
The Union canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 84 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 121 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,300 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $145
• Native saplings and stakes: $580
• Tools and protective gear: $575
If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

Updates from Shafiq
Thank you all. We're at 10% now ($124). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($90 in total) the plan for signage and educational materials is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Rooting for you. Great idea, hope you get there. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out. Blessings
Great idea, hope you get there. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Love from Tema.
