Restoring the Sycamore wetland: a volunteer-led project in Mwanza
Help us clean and replant the Sycamore wetland before the May planting window closes.
🇹🇿 Mwanza, Mwanza, Tanzania1,539 views
The Sycamore wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 73 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 143 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $200 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $80
• Tools and protective gear: $30
• Waste removal and skip hire: $80
• Signage and educational materials: $10

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Joyce.
It's all in the list in the story. native saplings and stakes is the big one at $80, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Thanks for looking so closely.
You're not alone, Joyce. More neighborhoods should do this.
Hang in there, Joyce. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I hope May is when things finally get easier. Take care.
Shared it with a few friends. After 21 years in customer support I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Caruaru.
Shared this with my family. Greetings from Tiruchirappalli.
Hope this works out for you. After 15 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double
Take care, Joyce. Gave what I could, wish it was more.
