Restoring the Pioneer riverbank: a volunteer-led project in San Jose
Volunteers are restoring the Pioneer riverbank in San Jose; $1,900 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇺🇸 United States679 views
The Pioneer riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 38 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 116 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,900 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $710
• Tools and protective gear: $390
• Waste removal and skip hire: $650
• Signage and educational materials: $150
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Taghreed.
Sure. The biggest one is native saplings and stakes, $710. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Thanks for looking so closely.
You're not alone, Taghreed. More neighborhoods should do this. My sister had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Love from Bowling Green.
Good luck, Taghreed. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money
Wishing you peace, Taghreed. More neighborhoods should do this
sending strength. I hope things turn around soon. My neighbor in Bogotá donated after I showed her your page. Take care.
