Restoring the Maple wetland: a volunteer-led project in Medellín
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Maple wetland needs $500 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world1,671 views
The Maple wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This December, 92 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 175 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $500 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $70
• Waste removal and skip hire: $180
• Native saplings and stakes: $250
Glad we found this place.

Wishing you the best. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Put this on a community board in Mobile this morning. Take care.
So sorry you're going through this. Great idea, hope you get there. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless
