Restoring the Liberty canal: a volunteer-led project in Ballarat
Help us clean and replant the Liberty canal before the May planting window closes.
🇦🇺 Australia1,603 views
The Liberty canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 84 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 185 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,400
• Tools and protective gear: $490
• Waste removal and skip hire: $440
• Signage and educational materials: $170
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

So sorry you're going through this. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My husband and I read this together. All the best
So sorry you're going through this, Aubree. Shared this with my family. Love from Arusha
