Restoring the Freedom wetland: a volunteer-led project in Mannheim
Help us clean and replant the Freedom wetland before the August planting window closes.
🇩🇪 Germany968 views
The Freedom wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 102 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 179 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $2,250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,350
• Tools and protective gear: $520
• Waste removal and skip hire: $380
Glad we found this place.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Heinz
It's all in the list in the story. native saplings and stakes is the big one at $1,350, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Fair thing to want to know.
Thanks for sharing this, Heinz. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did
Stay strong, Heinz. Shared it with a few friends. My husband and I read this together. Love from Salvador.
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'll check back for the next update. Thinking of Mannheim
stay strong, Heinz. Great idea, hope you get there.
Stay strong, Heinz. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We're a small family in Savannah but we're thinking of you. All the best.
Good luck. More neighborhoods should do this. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Blessings.
Hope things get better soon, Heinz. This could happen to any of us. God bless
