Restoring the Acacia canal: a volunteer-led project in Nagpur
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Acacia canal needs $200 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world1,190 views
The Acacia canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This November, 73 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 89 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $200 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $70
• Native saplings and stakes: $125
• Signage and educational materials: $5
Glad we found this place.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Payal
It's all in the list in the story. waste removal and skip hire is the big one at $70, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Happy to explain more.
Sending love, Payal. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes
Hope it all works out, Payal. I hope things turn around soon. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. God bless
Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I went through something like this 14 years ago and strangers helped me out. Thinking of Nagpur
