Restoring Cedar Creek: a volunteer-led project in Dar es Salaam
Volunteers are restoring Cedar Creek in Dar es Salaam; $260 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇹🇿 Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania1,048 views
Cedar Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 97 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 115 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $260 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $75
• Tools and protective gear: $75
• Waste removal and skip hire: $105
• Signage and educational materials: $5
Thank you so much.

More neighborhoods should do this. I have a 14 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Greetings from Pune.
thanks for sharing this, Joyce. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My neighbor in Gatineau donated after I showed her your page. Take care!
