Plant 1,800 native trees around the Acacia riverbank in Medellín
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Acacia riverbank needs $650 for saplings and equipment.
🇨🇴 Antioquia, Colombia717 views
The Acacia riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 63 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 91 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $650 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $210
• Native saplings and stakes: $370
• Signage and educational materials: $70
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

It takes guts to ask. Well done. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Greetings from Bogotá
Looking forward to the next update. Love from Madina
