I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying an electrical engineering diploma at the Johannesburg Institute of Technology, and I'm one semester away from graduating. I have worked as a warehouse packer to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $500. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.6 average, and my department head has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees. Where the $500 goes: • Outstanding tuition balance: $410 • Exam and lab fees: $70 • Textbooks and materials: $20 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself. - Rashid

Updates from Rashid

  1. 68% there. I made the first payment toward textbooks and materials. Thank you.

  2. Update from Johannesburg: we've started the first stage. We're at 23% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 8% now ($40). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the university and confirmed the amounts. - Rashid
