Rachel is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a diploma in hospitality management at Stellenbosch Community College, and is one semester away from graduating. She has worked as a barista to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $1,250.
The registrar has said Rachel can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Rachel has a 3.6 average, and an academic advisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Rachel would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Rachel isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $1,250 goes:
• Final term tuition: $910
• Exam and lab fees: $75
• Outstanding tuition balance: $265
Thank you so much.
