Manikandan is the first person in the family to go to university. He is studying a teaching qualification at Rohini Community College, and is one term away from graduating. He has worked as a warehouse packer to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $500.
The registrar has said Manikandan can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Manikandan has a 3.6 average, and a professor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Manikandan would lose his place and scholarship eligibility.
Manikandan isn't asking for a handout - He wants to finish what He started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $500 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $440
• Textbooks and materials: $15
• Exam and lab fees: $45
