Madeline is the first person in the family to go to university. She is studying a diploma in hospitality management at Townsville State College, and is one semester away from graduating. She has worked as a delivery rider to pay the way, but this term the hours were cut and there's an unpaid balance of $3,300.
The registrar has said Madeline can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. Madeline has a top-ten-percent average, and an academic advisor has written in support.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support the younger siblings. Without enrolling this term Madeline would lose her place and scholarship eligibility.
Madeline isn't asking for a handout - She wants to finish what She started and help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $3,300 goes:
• Outstanding tuition balance: $1,550
• Final term tuition: $1,150
• Exam and lab fees: $340
• Textbooks and materials: $260
