My tuk-tuk: Ploy's only way to earn a living

Without my tuk-tuk Ploy can't work; a $250 repair would put her back on the road.

I make my living with my tuk-tuk. 3 weeks ago the gearbox failed, and the mechanic says the repair will cost $250. Without the vehicle I earn nothing. I have been borrowing from friends to pay rent, and now I have run out of people to ask. I support my wife and our newborn. Before the breakdown I worked nine hours a day, six days a week. I have been offered extra shifts for the next three months if I can just get the vehicle working. I have a written estimate from a certified mechanic and will upload it here. I'll pay the mechanic directly and show you the repaired vehicle in an update. Where the $250 goes: • gearbox replacement (parts): $165 • Labor charges: $50 • Towing and inspection: $35 Thanks for being kind about this. - Ploy

  • You're not alone. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Thinking of Phuket.

    • Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Ploy.

It's all in the list in the story. gearbox replacement (parts) is the big one at $165, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Fair thing to want to know.

    • You're not alone, Ploy. I hope things turn around soon. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care

      • Wishing you peace, Ploy. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out.

Hope things get better soon, Ploy. This could happen to any of us. Put this on a community board in Nagpur this morning. Thinking of Phuket.

          • Rooting for you, Ploy. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Love from Cologne.
