My school-run minibus: Víctor's only way to earn a living

Víctor drives for a living in Sacramento, and a broken gearbox has stopped all income for 7 weeks.

I make my living with my school-run minibus. 7 weeks ago the gearbox failed, and the mechanic says the repair will cost $1,650. Without the vehicle I earn nothing. I have been borrowing from friends to pay rent, and now I have run out of people to ask. I support my 2 children. Before the breakdown I worked eleven hours a day, six days a week. I have been offered extra shifts for the next six months if I can just get the vehicle working. I have a written estimate from a certified mechanic and will upload it here. All money will go toward the parts and labor on the estimate, with a small amount for road tax and insurance renewal. Where the $1,650 goes: • gearbox replacement (parts): $830 • Labor charges: $370 • Road tax and insurance renewal: $300 • Towing and inspection: $150 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

You're not alone, Víctor. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Thinking of Sacramento!
