My delivery van: Gayan's only way to earn a living
Gayan drives for a living in Negombo, and a broken transmission has stopped all income for 4 weeks.
🇱🇰 Negombo, Western, Sri Lanka1,203 views
I make my living with my delivery van. 4 weeks ago the transmission failed, and the mechanic says the repair will cost $200. Without the vehicle I earn nothing.
I have been borrowing from friends to pay rent, and now I have run out of people to ask.
I support my family of five. Before the breakdown I worked twelve hours a day, six days a week. I have been offered extra shifts for the next six months if I can just get the vehicle working.
I have a written estimate from a certified mechanic and will upload it here.
I'll pay the mechanic directly and show you the repaired vehicle in an update.
Where the $200 goes:
• transmission replacement (parts): $80
• Labor charges: $50
• Road tax and insurance renewal: $40
• Towing and inspection: $30
Thanks for being kind about this.

hope it all works out, Gayan. I'd happily buy from you once you're back up. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Please keep us posted. All the best.
