In August I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. My oncology team at Seattle Cancer Centre has planned 8 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in October. I was told to expect about 6 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 45, I worked as a bus conductor until August, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Seattle Cancer Centre 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $2,450 goes:
• Transport to Seattle Cancer Centre: $970
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $590
• Household costs while unable to work: $890

Is transport to Seattle Cancer Centre the biggest cost or is there more coming?
