I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a diploma in hospitality management at the San Diego Institute of Technology, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a warehouse packer to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $3,650.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.6 average, and my professor has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees.
Where the $3,650 goes:
• Exam and lab fees: $250
• Outstanding tuition balance: $1,150
• Final term tuition: $2,250
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Wishing you the best. Looking forward to the next update. Thinking of San Diego
Stay strong, Lydia. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Thinking of San Diego.
So sorry you're going through this, Lydia. Your post was clear and honest. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. All the best
