Let's build a free library and reading room together in Kyiv

For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Sycamore health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $220, and the remaining cost is $650. It will serve about 329 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in March and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance. Where the $650 goes: • Materials: $490 • Permits and inspections: $60 • Safety equipment and signage: $25 • Tools hire and delivery: $75 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Irina
