Legal fees for Nomsa's wage-theft claim in Stellenbosch

A wage-theft claim deadline is approaching and Nomsa can't afford the lawyer.

I'm facing a wage-theft claim. My hearing is scheduled for November, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $750. I have been told by three legal-aid offices that their waiting list is longer than my deadline. I have all of my paperwork ready, and my caseworker at Stellenbosch Welcome Centre has confirmed that my case is valid. If I miss the deadline I could lose my right to stay with my family and my job. My children were born here and this is the only home they know. I'll share any non-sensitive updates as the case moves along. The money goes to the immigration attorney's trust account and the court filing office. I'll upload receipts with sensitive details removed. Where the $750 goes: • Attorney retainer: $520 • Filing and biometrics fees: $200 • Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $30 Thanks for being kind about this. - Nomsa

Updates from Nomsa

  1. Thank you all. We're at 5% now ($36). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the attorney and confirmed the amounts.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($57 in total) I met with the attorney and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  • Halyna Svetlana Belov 🇺🇦 · $36
  • Ketki G. Modi 🇮🇳 · $25
  • Anaïs Florence Leroy 🇫🇷 · $21

“Hope the November deadline works out. - Nice”
