The gas account is 3 months behind. Mercedes received a disconnection notice that says service will be cut off on November unless $150 is paid. She had never been late before September's medical emergency.
Mercedes called the provider and asked about a payment plan, but they need a down payment of $30 first, which isn't available.
The household includes a disabled brother, and going through the rainy season without gas isn't safe. Without it we can't refrigerate insulin and food, or keep the house at a safe temperature.
Mercedes is working on getting back on her feet, and wants to pay it forward once steady.
Every dollar goes to the account in Mercedes's name; a copy of the paid bill will be shared in the updates.
