Justice shouldn't depend on a bank balance: Oliver's asylum application

Help Oliver cover the fees of an asylum application so He can stay with his family.

Oliver is facing an asylum application. The hearing is scheduled for July, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $2,350. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline. Oliver has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at the Huntsville Community Legal Centre has confirmed that the case is valid. If the deadline is missed Oliver could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know. Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer. Where the $2,350 goes: • Attorney retainer: $1,800 • Filing and biometrics fees: $290 • Certified translations and document copies: $160 • Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $100 With deep gratitude, Avery

Updates from Avery

  1. Quick update: $721 raised so far (31%). the first invoice got paid this week. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Wanted to say thank you properly. 13% funded and I made the first payment toward certified translations and document copies.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($251 in total) I made the first payment toward filing and biometrics fees. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
