I'm facing a citizenship application. My hearing is scheduled for October, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $550. I have been told by three legal-aid offices that their waiting list is longer than my deadline. I have all of my paperwork ready, and my caseworker at the Rohini Community Legal Centre has confirmed that my case is valid. If I miss the deadline I could lose my right to stay with my family and my job. My children were born here and this is the only home they know. I'll share any non-sensitive updates as the case moves along. The money goes to the immigration attorney's trust account and the court filing office. I'll upload receipts with sensitive details removed. Where the $550 goes: • Attorney retainer: $480 • Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $20 • Certified translations and document copies: $50 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Meenakshi

  • Jigna SavlaQuestion

what's already covered and what's the $550 for?

    • Sure. The biggest one is attorney retainer, $480. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Thanks for looking so closely.

  • Wishing you peace, Meenakshi. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from Nottingham.

    • Keiko FujiiQuestion

who gets the funds, you or the attorney?

      • It comes to me first, then I pay the attorney myself and upload the receipt. I wouldn't be comfortable any other way. Thanks for asking.

    • wishing you the best, Meenakshi. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. Greetings from Kharkiv
