Madelyn is facing a family reunification petition. The hearing is scheduled for October, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $4,400. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline. Madelyn has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at the San Diego Community Legal Centre has confirmed that the case is valid. If the deadline is missed Madelyn could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know. The money goes to the immigration attorney's trust account and the court filing office. I'll upload receipts with sensitive details removed. Where the $4,400 goes: • Attorney retainer: $3,400 • Filing and biometrics fees: $620 • Certified translations and document copies: $210 • Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $170 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Christian

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Madelyn.

Attorney retainer is $3,400 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Let me know if you want more detail.

Good luck, Christian. This could happen to any of us. I hope October is when things finally get easier.

Hope it all works out, Christian. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Sent it to 19 people at work. God bless.
