Justice shouldn't depend on a bank balance: Graciela's citizenship application
Help Graciela cover the fees of a citizenship application so She can stay with her family.
🇺🇸 11218, Brooklyn, New York, United States2,366 views
Graciela is facing a citizenship application. The hearing is scheduled for October, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $2,550. Three legal-aid offices have said their waiting lists are longer than the deadline.
Graciela has all the paperwork ready, and a caseworker at Brooklyn Welcome Centre has confirmed that the case is valid.
If the deadline is missed Graciela could lose the right to stay with the family and the job. The children were born here and this is the only home they know.
Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer.
Where the $2,550 goes:
• Attorney retainer: $1,850
• Filing and biometrics fees: $450
• Certified translations and document copies: $105
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $145
With deep gratitude,
Jimena
