Justice shouldn't depend on a bank balance: Ethan's asylum application
Ethan needs $4,050 for filing fees and representation in an asylum application before the September deadline.
🇺🇸 United States1,355 views
I'm facing an asylum application. My hearing is scheduled for September, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $4,050. I have been told by three legal-aid offices that their waiting list is longer than my deadline.
I have all of my paperwork ready, and my caseworker at the St. Louis Community Legal Centre has confirmed that my case is valid.
If I miss the deadline I could lose my right to stay with my family and my job. My children were born here and this is the only home they know.
I'll share any non-sensitive updates as the case moves along.
Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer.
Where the $4,050 goes:
• Attorney retainer: $3,350
• Filing and biometrics fees: $390
• Certified translations and document copies: $140
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $170
Thanks for reading all this.

You're not alone, Ethan. It takes guts to ask. Well done.
Best of luck. Shared it with a few friends. We're a small family in Pasig but we're thinking of you. Take care.

Wishing you the best, Ethan. Your post was clear and honest. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. All the best
