Justice shouldn't depend on a bank balance: Esteban's asylum application
An asylum application deadline is approaching and Esteban can't afford the lawyer.
🇺🇸 United States1,556 views
I'm facing an asylum application. My hearing is scheduled for September, and the filing fees and the lawyer's retainer come to $800. I have been told by three legal-aid offices that their waiting list is longer than my deadline.
I have all of my paperwork ready, and my caseworker at the Brooklyn Community Legal Centre has confirmed that my case is valid.
If I miss the deadline I could lose my right to stay with my family and my job. My children were born here and this is the only home they know.
I'll share any non-sensitive updates as the case moves along.
Funds cover only the filing fees, translations and attorney retainer.
Where the $800 goes:
• Court-appointed interpreter and travel: $120
• Certified translations and document copies: $195
• Filing and biometrics fees: $485
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

hope things get better soon, Esteban. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
Hope this works out for you. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Love from Toulon!
