I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a diploma in hospitality management at Gangnam Community College, and I'm one semester away from graduating. I have worked as a night-shift cleaner to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $1,150.
The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a 3.9 average, and my department head has written in support of my application for a payment plan.
Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility.
I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student.
The payment will go directly to the Gangnam Community College bursar's office. I'll post the receipt.
Where the $1,150 goes:
• Exam and lab fees: $85
• Outstanding tuition balance: $840
• Textbooks and materials: $225
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Take care, Ji-hye. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn.
Thanks for sharing this, Ji-hye. This could happen to any of us. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. God bless.
