Opio was diagnosed with kidney cancer in May. The oncology team at Kasarani Cancer Centre has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in July. He will be away from work for about 6 weeks.
Opio is 46, worked as a bakery worker until May, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Kasarani Cancer Centre 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,800 goes:
• Household costs while unable to work: $230
• Transport to Kasarani Cancer Centre: $100
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $130
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,340
