In April I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My oncology team at Hubballi Cancer Centre has planned 12 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in July. I was told to expect about 10 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 40, I worked as a cleaner at a hospital until April, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Hubballi Cancer Centre 3 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,350 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,100 • Scans and lab work: $85 • Household costs while unable to work: $165 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.
